Edinburgh-based water retailer Business Stream has been awarded a gold rating by global sustainability rating providers, EcoVadis, placing them within the top 5% of companies assessed.
EcoVadis helps over 100,000 companies in over 200 industries assess their sustainability credentials. The assessment is based on international sustainability standards, including the Global Reporting Initiative, the United Nations Global Compact and ISO 2600 certification.
In addition to assessing Business Stream’s environmental credentials, EcoVadis also measured the water retailer’s commitment to labour and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement.
Three years ago Business Stream launched its vision to make a positive difference to its customers, its people, the environment and local communities. Since then the water retailer has launched over 25 new initiatives to bring its vision to life. This has included initiatives to help reduce its impact on the environment, resulting in Business Stream lowering its carbon footprint by a quarter within a 12-month period. The retailer has since launched a second pledge to reduce its emissions by a further 20% by April 2023.
Chief Executive of Business Stream, Jo Dow said: “At Business Stream we recognise the importance of being a responsible business and believe that our actions should have a positive impact on the environment and society as a whole. We are absolutely delighted to be placed within the top 5% of companies assessed by EcoVadis. We won’t however become complacent and are committed to doing even more to continue to drive sustainable practices across our operations and to support our customers and supply chain to do the same”.
Business Stream announced earlier this month that over the past year they have saved customers across the UK just under £32million through discounts and water and energy efficiency measures.
