Information for applicants
We aim to keep our recruitment process as simple as possible, and to keep you updated throughout. You can view each step of our recruitment process below.
Every vacancy has a related role profile which outlines the skills and experience required for the role. All applications will be assessed against this criteria to ensure fairness and consistency for all.
The recruitment journey
Apply online with your CV
Your CV should reflect who you are and the experience you have to offer Business Stream. It's an opportunity to highlight what makes you right for the role you're applying for.
Once we’ve received your application, we’ll let you know straight away that we have it. Then, after the closing date, we'll send you an email to let you know what happens next.
Selection process
Our Hiring manager will review all applications against the related role profile and select the candidates who match the job criteria the most. If you're unsuccessful this time, we'll let you know.
Interview
If you are one of our selected candidates, our Recruitment team will contact you to schedule an interview. The interview will likely be a face-to-face meeting at our Edinburgh office but please note that our Hiring Manager might request a Teams video call initially to go over your CV and get to know you better.
Our interviews are planned so that we get the opportunity to thoroughly understand your talents and experience in relation to the job requirements. There will also be some competency questions so that we can evaluate your abilities.
If you have a disability, as outlined by the Equality Act 2010, and require reasonable adjustments to be made during the recruitment process, please let us know in advance so that any support, aids or adaptations can be put in place to assist you in the interview.
Following the interview stage, we'll let you know the outcome. This happens once all interviews have been completed. If you're unsuccessful, we'll offer helpful feedback and we'll keep your application on file for six months in case another suitable role becomes available.
Joining us
If you're successful following the interview process, we'll call you to make you an offer. Once you've accepted, we'll issue a contract and supporting documents for you to complete including reference contacts and some forms to complete in relation to bank details, pension and life assurance.
We'll then organise your Business Stream induction with our Learning & Development team for the day you join us, and we'll agree a training programme with your new line manager.
Retention policy
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), we're legally obliged to ensure we do not retain personal data beyond that which is necessary for its purpose.
For candidates, we hold data for 6 months and then it is deleted from our records. If you do not wish us to hold your data beyond the recruitment period, please let us know.
Handy tips for a successful interview
- Review the role profile prior to the interview so you can relate your experience to the requirements of the role.
- It can be helpful to prepare real life examples of your previous experience using the STAR method i.e. Tell us the situation, then the Task, the Action you took and, finally the Result. This helps you prepare for the competency questions that you'll be asked.
- Take your time before responding and don’t hesitate to ask for the question to be repeated or for clarification if you don’t understand.
- Feel free to prepare some questions for us. This is a two way conversation and you need to decide if we're right for you too.
