Hosepipe ban
Yorkshire Water, South East Water, Thames Water and Southern Water
Due to a very dry spring and low reservoir levels during 2025, some water wholesaler areas are implementing a Temporary Usage Ban (TUB), also known as a hosepipe ban.
-
For customers in the Yorkshire Water region – the hosepipe ban went into effect on Friday, 11 July 2025.
-
For customers in the South East Water region (Kent and Sussex) - the hosepipe ban went into effect on Friday, 18 July 2025.
-
For customers in the Thames Water region (Swindon, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Wiltshire) – the hosepipe ban went into effect on Tuesday, 22 July 2025.
-
For customers in the Southern Water region (Hampshire and the Isle of Wight) – the hosepipe ban went into effect on Monday, 21 July 2025.
While these restrictions mainly apply to household water use, if you’re a business customer in any of the wholesaler regions noted above, this ban may impact you depending on the type of business you have, for example washing private hire vehicles or watering communal gardens and non-playing areas of sports grounds.
Business water usage accounts for nearly a third of all water usage in England, and businesses are being asked to reduce consumption wherever possible to help manage the situation and avoid further restrictions.
